FAQ

If you have any more questions or need clarification, feel free to contact us. We're happy to help.

What types of diggers do you have for hire?

Pronto Hire offers a range of diggers, including mini diggers (1.5 ton to 3 ton), mid-sized diggers (5 ton to 8 ton), and large excavators for bigger projects. Let us know your specific requirements, and we’ll recommend the best equipment.

How much does digger hire cost?

Digger hire costs depend on the model and the length of time you need the equipment. Contact us for a personalised quote based on your project scope and timeline.

Do you provide digger attachments for hire?

Yes, we offer various digger attachments, including buckets, augers, and rippers, to suit different types of excavation work. Ask our team about which attachments would best fit your project.

Can I operate a digger myself, or do I need a license?

We do not require you to hold any licence to operate a digger, but the operator needs to be suitably instructed in the safe and proper use and be competent in operating it. You may like to check if there are any specific requirements to hold WTR licences on the site where you will be working. However if you are to use them on New Zealand roads, you will be legally required to have a special-type endorsement. For clarification, we recommend you refer to https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/40/

What is the maximum depth a digger can excavate?

The maximum digging depth depends on the model of the digger. For example, a 1.5 ton mini digger typically has a dig depth of around 2 - 2.5 meters, while larger models can reach deeper. Contact us for specific details on each machine.

Is there a minimum hire period for diggers?

We provide flexible hire options, offering daily, weekly, and long-term rentals—allowing you to choose the rental period that perfectly suits your project requirements.

Do you offer digger hire in my area?

Pronto Hire services Auckland, lower Northland, Waikato and surrounding areas. We provide prompt delivery and pick-up services directly to your site, ensuring your digger arrives when and where you need it.

What happens if the digger breaks down during hire?

In the unlikely event of a breakdown, contact us immediately. We’ll provide support to either repair the equipment on-site or replace it with another machine, minimising any downtime for your project.

Why isn't my digger attachment working?

If your attachment isn’t working, it could be due to a few common issues. First, make sure the taps on the digger are turned on, as closed taps will prevent hydraulic flow. Also, check that all hydraulic hoses are securely connected and not damaged. It’s a good idea to ensure there are no kinks or blockages in the lines. If the attachment still doesn’t work, refer to the operator’s manual or give us a call, and we’ll help troubleshoot!

How do I get my tilt hitch working?

To get your tilt hitch working, ensure that all hydraulic connections are securely attached and free of leaks. Then, start your digger and engage the tilt function using the controls. If it doesn't respond, double-check the pressure settings and refer to the operator's manual for specific instructions. For further assistance, reach out to us at Pronto Hire, and we'll be happy to help!

My quick hitch isn’t releasing, how do I get it to open/close?

If your quick hitch isn’t releasing, first ensure that the safety pin is removed and the hydraulic pressure is on. Check for any debris around the hitch that might be blocking the mechanism. If it's still not working, try operating the controls slowly to release any trapped pressure. If the issue persists, give us a call, and we’ll help troubleshoot or arrange for a service.

How do I release the hydraulic pressure?

To release the hydraulic pressure on a digger, first, ensure the machine is turned off and parked on a stable surface. Move the control levers back and forth several times to relieve any residual pressure in the hydraulic system. Always refer to the digger’s manual for specific instructions, as some models may have a dedicated pressure release valve.

Why isn't my digger starting?

If your digger isn’t starting, there are a few things to check: first, ensure the emergency stop button hasn’t been pressed and is reset. Next, confirm that the safety lever is in the correct position, as the digger won’t start with it up. Additionally, check the battery connections, fuel levels, and make sure the ignition key is fully turned. If the issue persists, call the Pronto Hire team for assistance!
