Pronto Pick #11: Tristan's go-to cabbed tracked dumpers for tough ground and big loads
Welcome back to Pronto Picks, where the Pronto Hire team shares the machines they rate for getting jobs done right. This time, we caught up with Tristan, Yardsman at Pronto Hire, to find out which dumpers he backs when the ground gets soft, the loads get heavy, and conditions get rough.
His pick? Our 5 Ton Track Dumper and Morooka cabbed tracked dumpers - the 7T and 11T.
"These are the machines customers ask for when a standard dumper just won't cut it. The cab makes a real difference on longer days or in bad weather, and the tracks mean you're not getting bogged down or tearing up the ground the way a wheeled machine would."
1) THERE'S A MACHINE TO MATCH THE JOB SIZE:
Whether you're shifting material on a drainage run, keeping a civil job moving through winter, or hauling across soft terrain on a larger project, this cabbed tracked range covers a wide spread of job types and payload requirements.
- The 5T Takeuchi TCR50 is a capable swivel tip machine suited to drainage, trenching, and confined civil sites where you need tracked stability and accurate side tipping without repositioning
- The Morooka 7T is built for heavier workloads and challenging ground, with a 6350kg payload capacity, low ground pressure rubber tracks, and a fully enclosed cab with heating and A/C
- The Morooka 11T MST2200VDR steps up again with an 11,000kg payload and 360° swivel tip, making it the right call for demanding civil, forestry, and infrastructure jobs where volume and ground protection both matter
"Once you've used a cabbed machine for a full day on a wet site, it's hard to go back. Customers notice it - especially on longer hires."
2) THE CAB IS MORE THAN JUST COMFORT:
It's easy to underestimate how much a cab changes things on site. Noise, weather, dust, and long hours all add up. A fully enclosed machine keeps operators more focused and less fatigued over a full shift, which makes a real difference to how the job gets done.
The Morooka 7T and 11T both come with:
- Fully insulated cab with ROPS safety
- Climate control - heating and A/C
- Suspension seat for all-day comfort
- Strong floating undercarriage for rough terrain performance
The 5T Takeuchi is also cab-equipped, giving you that same level of weather protection and operator comfort in a slightly smaller, more manoeuvrable package.
"You get more out of the operator when the machine is comfortable to work in. It's not just a nice extra - it actually affects productivity on site."
3) TRACKS GIVE YOU ACCESS WHERE WHEELS CAN'T GO:
The main reason customers step up to this range is ground conditions. On soft, wet, or uneven terrain, wheeled dumpers lose traction, cause ruts, and create problems on sites where ground disturbance needs to be minimised.
Rubber tracked machines handle this differently:
- Low ground pressure spreads the machine's weight over a larger footprint, reducing damage to lawns, driveways, or sensitive surfaces
- Better traction on sloped, muddy, or waterlogged ground keeps material moving even when conditions deteriorate
- Suitable for sites where wheeled machines would either get stuck or cause unacceptable ground damage
The Morooka 7T has a track width of 2642mm and the 11T sits at 2946mm wide, giving both machines a stable, planted footprint on difficult sites.
"If it's been wet for a few days and the site's churned up, these machines just keep going. Customers aren't stopping work because the ground got bad."
4) SWIVEL TIP MAKES A REAL DIFFERENCE ON DRAINAGE AND CIVIL WORK:
All three machines in this range have swivel tip capability, and it's worth understanding why that matters on the kind of jobs these dumpers are used for.
On drainage runs, trench backfill, and confined civil sites, the ability to tip to either side without repositioning the whole machine saves significant time over a full day's work. It also improves safety - fewer machine movements means less exposure in tight areas.
- The 5T swivel tip rotates to discharge material to either side, keeping it practical for drainage and trench work
- The Morooka 11T has a full 360° swivel, which gives operators accurate placement without needing to reposition on steeper or more confined ground
"The swivel tip is one of those things customers don't always think about upfront, but once they've used it on a drain or trench job, they always want it again."
